About the Artist

Carla Herrera-Prats received her BFA at La Esmeralda in Mexico City and her MFA in Photography at CalArts, Los Angeles. She participated in the Whitney Independent Study Program in New York. Working in different media, her practice juxtaposed elements from diverse sources, researching the documentary possibilities of photography and text. She was co-director of the gallery Acceso A in Mexico City from 1999 to 2001 and her work was shown in Canada, Colombia, Japan, Mexico, the Philippines, Puerto Rico and the United States. She was part of the collaborative CAMEL; a group researching art/activist practices and possibilities in New York. She received support from the Interdisciplinary Grant Program of CalArts, the Van Lier Foundation, The Jumex Collection, and a Jóvenes Creadores (Young Creators) Award from Fondo Nacional Para La Cultura y Las Artes. Currently, Herrera-Prats was a visiting artist at The School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
