About the Artist

Eileen Maxson (b. 1980, Rockville Centre, New York) is an interdisciplinary artist working at the confluence of video, performance, installation, and photography. Darkly humorous and conceptually determined, Maxson’s works contemplate an identity mediated by a commercialized world.

Screenings and exhibitions of her work include Wexner Center for the Arts, Columbus, OH; Queens Museum of Art, Queens, NY; and Museum of Moving Image, Queens, NY. She has been awarded residencies at International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP), Brooklyn, NY (2013-2014), Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC), New York (2013), Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin, Germany (2012-2013), and grants from Nasher Sculpture Center, Dallas, TX; Mondriaan Foundation, Amsterdam, Netherlands; The Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas, TX; and Centrum Beeldende Kunst, Rotterdam, Netherlands.

Maxson holds an MFA from Carnegie Mellon University (2008), a BFA from University of Houston (2002), and attended De Ateliers, Amsterdam (2008-2010).
