About the Artist

Ian Pedigo is a mixed-media artist working with objects and imagery involving fragments of an imagined past residing in our contemporary present. His work carefully combines natural, hand-made, or found objects with an intimate sensitivity to their aesthetic and relational qualities. The result is a work participating in the creation of a “Modal Environs”, an experiential work he refers to as extending beyond the limits of the object's local physicality, one which replicates, yet somewhat subverts, commonplace components into an atmospheric, albeit more changeless semblance of reality. He was born in 1973 in Anchorage, Alaska and grew up there before pursuing a study of visual art in Texas, culminating with an MFA from the University of Texas at Austin in 2002. Since then, he has held solo exhibitions in Canada, Sweden, Italy, France and the UK, as well as in Chicago and New York. He currently lives and works in Queens, NY.
