Project Details

Fluent~Collaborative is pleased to announce testsite 04.5, a collaboration between Alejandro Cesarco and Gabriel Pérez-Barreiro.

In June 2004, Cesarco visited Austin and spent a week exploring the University of Texas libraries. His research uncovered that the Uruguayan poet Idea Vilariño (b. 1920) had not yet been translated into English. His project became to produce a translation of her book Poemas de amor (Love Poems), a covert form of appropriation that investigates the potential of literal translation as a creative visual act. The resulting book will be distributed by Pérez-Barreiro as an exploration of the curatorial role as distributor rather than the more commonly understood role of author, quasi-artist, or even translator.

Another part of the project will be the presentation at testsite of a new work by Cesarco, Untitled (Dante/Calvino), a reflection on the construction of narrative, the complicity between reading and writing, translation practices and the impossibility of a faithful repetition.
